Last year we planted some veggies in our yard...We got so many ridge gourd...Home grown veggies have a special taste...They were so sweet and we enjoyed many ridge gourd dishes(MIL was with me then...)...will soon post other dishes with ridge gourd...This kootu goes well as side dish for rice... We also have this with chappathis...that way also it tasted good...Here's the recipe..

Ridge Gourd/Peerkangai | 1 medium |
Moong dhal | 2 tblsp |
Turmeric powder | 1 tsp |
Salt | to taste |
To grind

Coconut | 1/8 cup |
Green chillies | 2 |
Jeera | 2 tsp |
To Temper
Ingredient | Measurement |
Mustard | 1 tsp |
Urad dal | 1 tsp |
oil | 1 tsp |
Curry leaves | 1 sprig |
Method
Take moong dhal with little water and add the chopped ridge gourd pieces to it....
Add turmeric powder and salt...Don't add much water...Totally 1/4 cup water is enough...Pressure cook for 1 whistle and in simmer for 5 minutes....Grind coconut,green chillies and jeera into a smooth paste....
Add the ground coconut to the boiled ridge gourd...Mix well and give it a boil...
Check for salt and temper with mustard, urad dal and curry leaves....
