Peerkangai curry/ Ridge Gourd Sidedish /Side dish recipes

The Ridge Gourd/Peerkangai is a very healthy veggie...It helps in reducing body fat...and helps in maintaining the fluid levels in the body...This is a very simple dish with very few ingredients...


Peerkangai/Ridge Gourd1 medium sized
Jeera 1 tsp
Red chillies 2
Turmeric powder 1 tsp
Vegetable oil 1 tsp

Scrap the skin off the ridge gourd and cut them into small sized cube shape pieces...

Take a small wide dish and heat il in it...When oil is hot enough, add the jeera and red chillies and when they get fried add the cubed ridge gourd to it and add turmeric powder...

Now add salt and fry the ridge gourd in the oil for 3 or 4 minutes(do not add water) and then place the dish in the pressure cooker(I kept it along with rice) and cook for 1 whistle and keep it in low flame for 5 minutes...

Let the gas release by itself and then open the pressure cooker...Now the peerkangai curry is ready...This is a slightly sweet side dish which children will like most..Before cutting peerkangai, cut the edge and taste some flesh part from the center... it should taste sweet..if it is bitter then discard the veggie...
