Poorana Kozhukattai / Modhagam / Modhak


Poorana Kozhukattai / Mothagam is a must have dish for Ganesh Chaturthi in south indian households...There are many variations in pooranam used inside the modhagam..We usually prepare this channa dal / Kadalai paruppu pooranam...Our family likes it a lot..If you want to make faster pooranam, you can  try thengai pooranam by just melting jaggery and adding elaichi and shredded coconut to it..Do give  a try and enjoy..


Ingredients

 Rice flour
1/2 cup
channa dal1/2 cup
Coconut shredded 1  tblsp
Jaggery 1/2 cup
Gingelly Oil 1  tsp
Salta pinch

Method

Take rice flour in a wide bowl and add a pinch salt..Boil water...

Add hot boiling water to the flour and mix well..Add gingelly oil and mix well..Let it cool a bit..Pressure cook channa dal and add jaggery and  shredded coconut to it..

Mash it well  and make small balls out of it..Take 2 similar small bowls and grease them well..Take a flour ball in a bowl and press it with another bowl..

Take the disc out and place a pooranam ball in it..

Shape as modagam by covering the pooranam ball on top..Similarly shape other mothagams and steam them for 8 to 10 minutes..

Take out and enjoy warm..
