Kara kuzhambu can be done adding veggies like brinjal or drumstick(murungaikaai) or as such as plain kara kuzhmbu...You can also add vengaya vadagam in plain version or with veggies...I usually prepare the powder bit more and use it to prepare gravy 2 times (not more than that since freshly ground will be better)...will be useful for busy weekday mornings...can be prepared very quickly...Do try this spicy ,tangy kara kuzhambu...

Mustard | 1/4 tsp |
Urad dal | 1/4 tsp |
Curry leaves | 1 sprig |
Turmeric powder | 1/2 tsp |
Tamarind water | 1 cup |
Jaggery | 1 generous pinch |
Salt | as needed |
To roast and grind

Dry red chillies | 3 or 4 |
Coriander seeds | 1 1/2 tsp |
Cumin/Jeera | 1 tsp |
Fenugreek /Vendhayam | 1/4 tsp |
Toor dal | 1 tblsp |
Method
Dry roast rice, coriander, dry red chillies, cumin(jeera), toor dal,fenugreek(vendhayam) one by one seperately and let it cool a bit...Grind as a powder...soak tamarind in water...
