Saamai ven pongal has become our family's favourite dish now a days...We like pongal to be mushy consistency...Saamai particularly suites this pongal very much...also not much heavy on the palette like our usual rice pongal....Now a days everyone is adding more of these millets in their diet and it's health benefits attracts everyone...Definitely not a compromise in taste at the same time...Do try and enjoy...
Ingredients
Ingredient | Measurement |
Saamai /Little millet | 1 cup |
Moong dal | 1/3 cup |
Ghee | 2 or 3 tblsp |
Mustard | 1 tsp |
Urad dal | 1 tsp |
Jeera/Cumin | 2 tsp |
Pepper | 2 tsp |
Green chilli | 1 or 2 |
Ginger | 1 inch |
Cashew | 2 tsp |
Curry leaves | 1 sprig |
Water | 4 or 5 cup |
Method
Take 1 cup of Saami / Samo seeds and 1/3 cup of moong daland wash it...Add 4 to 5 cups of water and required salt to it...Pressure cook for 4 or 5 whistles...
Heat ghee in a kadai and add mustard, urad dal,cumin, pepper,cashew pieces,ginger,green chilli and curry leaves...After everything gets fried add little hing at last...Pour it on top of cooked pongal and mix well...
