Bombay Karam Chutney / Toor dal Chutney /Thuvaramparuppu chutney

We call this chutney prepared using toor dal as bombay karam chutney...but there are many variations to this chutney..Mom prepares it using just toor dal and MIL prepare this using channa dal and toor dal, half and half...The method of preparation is the same..Both ways it tastes equally good..Just a little dal will provide a lot of chutney..ideal for big families..In this recipe I've used just a tblsp..Do try our family's delicacy and you would enjoy for sure..


Red onion1 big
Tomato1 small
Red chilli/green chilli2
Fennel seeds1/2 tsp
 Toor dal1 t blsp
Coconut slicesfew 
saltas needed
To Temper

Mustard1/2 tsp
Urad dal1/2 tsp
Curry leaves1 sprig
Oil1 tsp


Soak toor dal for 20 to 30 minutes...Take  1/2 onion, tomato, green chilli,coconut slices,fennel seeds and soaked dal in a mixer and grind as a paste..

Heat little oil in a sauce pan and temper with mustard, urad dal and curry leaves..Add finely chopped onion(other half) and saute till it turn transparent..

Add the ground paste to it and add required water..Let it boil till the raw flavor goes off..takes upto 8 minutes in our stove..
