Keerai Masiyal / Spinach Masiyal


Keerai masiyal...I am preparing this everyday in weekdays lunch with same recipe but with different greens...amaranthus,spinach,vendhaya keerai (Methi) and french chard...One day I prepare Kothamalli (cilantro) thogayal... I wanted to make this as a habit of eating greens everyday in our home...and now following this now for a month....My FIL is with us now...He bought me a earthen pot from India...So I'm using it daily to make these greens...Try it and stay healthy...



Ingredients

Spinach Keerai1/2 bunch
Moong dal/Pasiparuppu1/4 cup
Turmeric powder1/4 tsp
Dry Red chilli
Garlic1 pod
Shallot2 or 3
Jeera/ Cumin1 tsp
Mustard 1/2 tsp
Urad dal1/2 tsp
Oil1 tsp
Curry leaves1 sprig
Saltas needed

Method

Wash and take moong dal in a pot and add garlic,shallots,cumin seeds, dry red chilli and pinch of turmeric,,,Let the moong dal get half cooked....Then add the chopped spinach leaves to the pot and mix well....

After everything gets cooked and become soft, remove from heat and and let it cool down...Grind slightly in a mixer...

Temper with mustard, urad dal, curry leaves and onion/ shallots...

  1. Very healthy and vibrant in colour!! I try to include spinach at least once a week and this masiyal looks yummy!!
